Dr. Sanjiv Sharma, born in 1956 in India, earned his medical degree in 1977 and completed his radiology residency in 1982. His passion for Interventional Radiology (IR) began in 1980 when he assisted in embolizing an inoperable renal cell carcinoma with uncontrolled hematuria. Inspired by the procedure’s success, he pursued IR, often improvising with limited resources—using a single Teflon wire, KIFA tubing reshaped with a steaming kettle, and a Seldinger needle for access.
